Charleroi golfers slip by Falcons, 236-246

The Mikes clinched at least a share of the Section 8-AA title with a 201-218 win over California Thursday at Carmichaels Golf Club.

Jacob Wamsley was low man for the Mikes with an even-par 37. Teammate Jordan Bogucki was 1-over with a 38, while Liam Shea was 2-over par.

Chris McAfee carded a 41 for Carmichaels while teammate Josh Bogucki finished with a 47.

Matt Amber shot 1-under par for California. Teammates Nathaniel Luketick (43), Jacob Cannon (44), Josh Peters (47), and Cody Mock (48) also counted in the Trojans’ final score.

Carmichales (10-1, 11-1) hosts Albert Gallatin on Monday at Carmichaels Golf Club in non-section play.

Brownsville shaved over 50 strokes from Wednesday’s total and the Falcons gave visiting Charleroi at match Thursday afternoon, dropping a 236-246 Section 8-AA decision at Carmichaels Golf Club.

The Cougars’ Mike Kondratik was the medalist with a 3-over 40. Josiah Fisher (43), David Kuenzel (48), Nick Chapasko (51), and Ross Calcek (54) also factored in the scoring for Charleroi (5-6, 6-7).

Dan Mullen was the low man for Brownsville (0-10, 0-10) with an 8-over 45. Zane McShane and Mike Adamson both shot 49, Greg Stiner had a 50, and Tucker Pritz finished with a 53.

Frazier lost a Section 2-AA match at Lindon Hall Golf Course by one stroke on Thursday to Southmoreland, 239-240.

Corey Schafer shot a 45 for the Scotties, while Phil Lockhart finished with a 47. Noah House carded a 52, Brock Grabiak carded a 47, and Josh Redding finished with a 48 for Southmoreland (8-3).

Josh Miller had a 43 for the Commodores. Annika Erdely shot a 49 and Mark Dillon finished with a 46.

Gregg Masneri and Blair Elliott also counted in the final score for Frazier (5-4, 6-5), both with a 51.

Belle Vernon won a Section 2-AAA golf match, 214-232, over Uniontown at Willowbrook Golf Course on Thursday.

Zach Cicchini was medalist with a 3-over 39 for the Leopards. Mike Lubrani carded a 41, while teammate Frank Guarinoni finished with a 43.

Greg Fedor shot a 44 for Belle Vernon (8-2, 9-3) and Eric Harkins carded a 47.

Logan Levander was low man for the Red Raiders with a 41. Devin Morrison (48), Tyler Frazee (47), Alec Basile (51), and Callahan Abel (45) also counted in the final score for Uniontown (5-4, 7-5)

Volleyball

The Brownsville girls volleyball team kept rolling along in Section 5-AA Thursday evening, shutting out visiting Elizabeth-Forward, 3-0.

The Lady Falcons (5-1, 7-1) won by the scores, 25-14, 27-25, 25-20.

Alie Seto had a nice all-around performance for Brownsville with 15 service points, nine aces and 11 kills. Her sister Maris added 10 kills and nine service points. Kyonte Martin distributed 23 assists and Jill Sabatula had a strong defensive effort with 15 digs.

The Geibel Catholic girls volleyball team remained undefeated with a 3-0 Section 5-A victory over visiting California.

The Lady Gators swept to victory by the scores, 25-15, 25-10, 25-16.

Ashley Tomasko led Geibel (5-0, 6-0) with 22 assists, 14 digs and four aces. Kaylee Ermine had a team-high 21 digs. Riley Bocan finished with 12 kills and seven digs, while Morgan DeWitt also had seven digs. Haley Solan finished with six assists and three aces.

The Carmichaels girls volleyball team swept past West Greene, 3-0, Thursday night for a Section 5-A road victory.

The Lady Mikes (3-2, 3-3) won by the scores, 25-14, 25-15, 25-15.

Katelyn Schooley led Carmichaels with 16 service points and eight kills. Lindsey Scott had nine service points and Abby Cutwright added eight. Emma Lewis finished with eight kills.

Albert Gallatin lost a Section 2-AAA volleyball match 3-1 on Thursday at Peters Twp.

The Lady Colonials won the first game (25-20) before losing the next three (25-18, 25-14, and 25-18).

Baylee Powell had 28 digs and two aces for Albert Gallatin. Teammate Tyler Peebles had 21 digs, 21 assists and three kills while Liberty Embacher had 20 digs, 11 kills, three blocks and three aces.

Albert Gallatin (0-4, 0-8) hosts Jefferson-Morgan on Monday.

The Fillies lost a Section 2-AAA volleyball match 3-0 at Upper St. Clair on Thursday.

Upper St. Clair won 24-11, 25-14, and 25-15.

Laurel Highlands’ Hannah Basinger had four kills and six digs. Teammate Maddi Rice had 11 digs, while Katelyn Kearns had nine assists.

The Fillies slip to 1-5 in Section 2-AAA play.

Girls Soccer

Karli Thomas made 21 saves Thursday night, but the Hempfield offense had too much fire power for a 12-0 Section 1-AAA home victory against Albert Gallatin.

Hempfield (4-3, 4-4) scored nine goals in the first half and three in the second.

Albert Gallatin slides to 0-7 in the section and 0-10 overall.

Boys Soccer

Bailey McIntyre scored three of Geibel Catholic’s four goals on Thursday in a Section 4-A win at home over visiting Bentworth.

McIntyre score the first goal of the game at 21:36 in the first half on an assist from Jung-In Park.

James Ewing scored the second goal of the game wit h5:56 left in the first half. Matt Mammarella had the assist.

McIntyre scored the Gators’ final two goals in the second half, both on assists from Ewing, at 28:40 and 1:00.

Geibel Catholic (5-0, 8-0) travels to Monessen on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Section 4-A play.

Waynesburg Central scored single goals in each half Thursday night for a 2-0 Section 6-AA victory over visiting Uniontown.

The Raiders improve to 1-4 in the section and 3-8 overall, while the Red Raiders are now 1-4 in the section and 3-6 overall.

The Mustangs won a Section 6-AA game at home on Thursday, defeating McGuffey 2-0.

Tyler Brown and Colby Tarr scored the goals for Laurel Highlands.

The Mustangs (4-2, 6-2) travel to Uniontown on Saturday in Section 6-AA play.

College Volleyball

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, led by Emily Kantor’s passing, defeated visiting Penn State Beaver Thursday night, 3-0.

The Lady Roaring Lions (3-0, 7-4) won by the scores, 25-7, 25-14, 25-16.

Kantor finished with 21 assists, including the 2,000th of her career. Samantha Helmentholer had 14 kills and Emily Caldwell added six kills and 13 digs.
