n How to Prevent Diabetes, 6-7 p.m. Monday and Oct. 6, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. In this five-week education program, participants will learn how to make better food choices, begin to lose weight, become more active, discuss changing behaviors to improve their habits and use food records to track their food choices. CPR classes are offered by Monongahela Valley Hospital in conjunction with Valley Health and Safety Training Center (VHSTC). n Managing Your Diabetes, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Oct.7-9, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Completion of the three-day “Diabetes Self-Management Training” is required prior to attending this class. Registration is required: 724-258-1483.
n Smocking cessation program, 6-8 p.m. Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28, Bentleyville Holiday Inn. Classes are offered at no charge to MVH Primary Care Resource Center (PCRC) patients, MVH employees and anyone with a referral from an MVH-affiliated primary care physician. Support groups
n Caring Corner Grief Support Program for families and children, 6-8 p.m. every Monday, East End United Community Center, Uniontown. Information: 724-437-1660.
n Survivors of Incest Anonymous meeting, 6:30-8 p.m. every Monday, Mount St. Macrina Retreat Center, Uniontown. The group is a 12-step recovery program for women and men older than 18 who were sexually abused by a trusted person as a child. Information: peopleofcourage@gmail.com or siawso.org.
n Stepping Stone Bereavement Support group fall program, 7 p.m. Mondays, Callaway, Fayette County Health Center, 100 New Salem Road, Uniontown. The program runs for 10 weeks with different topics being presented weekly. Anyone who is newly bereaved or still having problems dealing with grief is invited to attend. n Breast cancer support group, 2-4 p.m. Oct. 6, 7-East Family Room, Monongahela Valley Hospital. This support group is free and open to all breast cancer patients and their families. Information: 724-258-1704.
n Silver Generation Support Program, 10 a.m. to noon every Wednesday, East End United Community Center. The program is for adults ages 55 and older. Information: 724-437-1660.
n Al-Anon Family Groups, 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Trinity Church basement, Fayette and Morgantown streets, Uniontown and 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Christian Church, Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville. n Crime Victims’ Center of Fayette County provides quality services for all victims and families of sexual assault and other violet crimes. Community events
n Flu vaccinations are now available at all Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets in-store pharmacies. No appointments are needed and vaccinations are provided any time the pharmacy is open. The cost for the stand flu shot is $35 and most major insurance plans along with Medicare are accepted. Customers with Giant/Martin’s prescription savings card will receive $10 off their flu shot. n Bone density screening, 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Health Directions, Finleyville Giant Eagle. This free screening will indicate if someone has osteoporosis and needs more extensive testing. No appointments necessary. Information: 724-348-6699.

n The 11th annual MVH/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk, Oct. 11, Charleroi Market House, 423 McKean Ave., Charleroi. Registration for the one or two mile fun walk begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Money raised goes toward supporting the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer in the community. n Ride Pink Charity Motorcycle Ride, Oct. 11, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, 101 Lafayette Drive, Farmington. Registration at 9:30 a.m. and ride promptly at 11 a.m. Riders will enjoy a 2-3 hour scenic trip throughout the Laurel Highlands’ mountains with stops along the way to visit Stone House Restaurant and Seven Springs resort, ending at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s RoctoberFest Brewfest event. Cost is $75 for single rider, $100 for two riders and includes a t-shirt for each rider, barbeque lunch, tickets to RoctoberFest and an entry into a drawing to win a Nemacolin Overnight prize package. n Women on Wellness (WOW) retreat, Oct. 25, Heston Farm, Fairmont. The event is built around a message of behavioral change and personal empowerment. Participants will engage in a three-part program of various activities meant to maintain, move and nourish the body, mind and spirit. In addition, a range of health screenings will be offered. Registration is $50, with scholarships and gift certificates available for women in financial need. The program is free for women in the military and wives or significant others of service personnel. n There are still Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program Vouchers available to seniors. Those who can participate are 60 or older by Dec. 31 of this year and meet the income eligibility guidelines of making no more than $21,590 for a single person household, $29,101 on a two person household or $36,612 for a three person household.
