Cross country
PAC honors local pair
Waynesburg’s Brendan Keany and Julie Gerber were named the PAC Cross Country Runners of the Week for their respective showings in last Saturday’s NCAA Division III Pre-National Meet held at Wilmington College in Ohio.
Keany ran a school-record time of 25:35.27 to finish 81st in the field of 375 runners. Gerber, a Uniontown graduate, finished 21st with a time of 21:50.7.
Raiders sweep
Waynesburg Central’s Ben Bumgarner finished first on his home course last Tuesday with a time of 18:25 to lead the Raiders to a Section 3-AA sweep of Frazier, California and Fort Cherry.
The Raiders defeated California, 18-45, and the Rangers, 17-45. Frazier did not have enough runners to score, so Waynesburg won, 15-50.
Frazier’s lone runner, Nyoah Marteny, was second in 19:34. The Raiders’ Cade Rush finished third with a time of 20:07. California’s Clayton Oveson was fourth with a time of 20:28, and Waynesburg’s Drew McConville was fifth in 20:38.
Volleyball
Fayette women sweep
The Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus women’s volleyball team swept four road matches over the weekend.
The Lady Roaring Lions defeated host Penn State Hazleton, 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-9), and Penn State Lehigh, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-17), on Saturday, and beat host Penn State Scranton, 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-9), and Penn State Wilkes Barre, 3-0 (25-14, 25-4, 25-12), on Sunday.
Golf
Frazier splits matches
The Frazier boys golf team lost to Greensburg Central Catholic in Section 2-AA action, 223-226, on the road last Tuesday, but came back on Wednesday for a 217-255 non-section home win at Linden Hall Golf Course over Brownsville.
Josh Miller was the low man for Frazier against the Centurions with a 4-over 41. Olivia Zambruno, who won the girls Class AA individual golf title on Tuesday, was the medalist, with an even-par 37.
Miller was the medalist against the Falcons with 1-over 38. Zane McShane and Mike Adamson shared low scoring honors for the Falcons, both scoring 49.
Lady Scots win
The Southmoreland girls golf team defeated St. Joseph, 212-244, last Tuesday for a Section 1-AA home victory.
Lindsey Pritts and Nadine Matthews shared scoring honors for the Lady Scots at 15-over 51. Alex Loporfito was the low scorer for St. Joseph with a 54.
