n Colorectal educational program, 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. The hospital will offer a free colorectal cancer education and screening in observance of the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Control Month. n Infant and child CPR class, 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Learn how to help a choking baby or small child. Sign up to learn emergency life saving techniques of clearing airway obstructions and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The $40 fee is payable to the Valley Health and Safety Training Center. n Orthopedics for the Non-Orthopedic Physician: What You Need to Know, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Physicians and nurses of all disciplines are invited to this symposium presented by the physicians of the Orthopedic group. This symposium will review the most important aspects of orthopedics to better serve patients, the latest innovative surgical and non-surgical orthopedic treatments and how to enhance communication among physicians and the health care team. n Managing Your Diabetes, 8:30-11:30 a.m. May 5, 6 and 7, Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. This education program is designed to help people with diabetes self-management. Topics include the importance of controlling blood sugars, diabetes medications, lifestyle changes, meal planning and methods to reduce the risk of complications. Support groups
n Suicide bereavement support group, 6 p.m. Monday, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. This group is a four-month program that meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The final dates for this series are May 11 and 18. This program is led by a licensed psychologist and is free and open to all those touched by suicide. Registration required: 724-268-1144.
n Caring Corner Grief Support Program for families and children, 6-8 p.m. every Monday, East End United Community Center, Uniontown. Information: 724-437-1660.
n Cancer support group, 2 p.m. Monday, Monongahela Valley Hospital, 7-East Family Room. The group is free and open to all cancer patients and their families. The group meets the third Monday of each month. Information: 724-258-1704.
n Survivors of Incest Anonymous meeting, 6:30-8 p.m. every Monday, Mount St. Macrina Retreat Center, Uniontown. The group is a 12-step recovery program for people 18 or older who were sexually abused by a trusted person as a child. Information: peopleofcourage@gmail.com or siawso.org.
n Stepping Stones Bereavement spring session began 7-9 p.m. March 2 and will run for 10 weeks at the Fayette County Health Center, 100 New Salem Road. Anyone who is newly bereaved or still having problems dealing with grief is invited to attend. There is no cost to participate. Information: 724-438-9373.
n Parkinson’s support group, 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Abundant Life Church, 1239 Brownfield Road, Uniontown. The guest speaker will be a speech therapist from Uniontown Hospital. Anyone with Parkinson’s Disease, their family members, caregivers and friends is welcome to attend.
n Silver Generation Support Program, 10 a.m. to noon every Wednesday, East End United Community Center. The program is for adults ages 55 and older. Information: 724-437-1660.
n Al-Anon Family Groups, 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Trinity Church basement, Fayette and Morgantown streets, Uniontown and 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Christian Church, Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville. n Celebrate Recovery meetings, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Third Presbyterian Church, 425 Union St., Uniontown. The program is based upon biblical principles with the purpose of letting God restore the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health.
n Stroke support group, 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. The group is designed for patients and caregivers to share, learn and grow with people who can personally relate to the daily challenges and struggles they face dealing with strokes and their after-effects. n Life after Weight Loss Surgery support group, 6:30-8:30 p.m. May 4, Thelma Sandy Conference Room, main lobby, Uniontown Hospital. Anyone considering or scheduled, or have had gastric bypass or a lap band procedure is invited to the group. Each meeting will feature a guest speaker on a topic related to obesity and/or weight loss surgery, a group member testimonial and an open forum for questions and answers. n Suicide survivor’s support group, 5:30-7 p.m. May 12, Thelma Sandy Conference Room, main lobby, Uniontown Hospital. Anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide, is invited. The group is there to help people cope with the tragedy they have experienced and perhaps help in the process of putting their life back together in the healthiest way possible. n Crime Victims’ Center of Fayette County provides quality services for all victims and families of sexual assault and other violent crimes.
