Falcons cruise to 14-4 win at Charleroi
Brownsville put together 15 hits Wednesday afternoon as the Falcons defeated Charleroi, 14-4, for a Section 2-AA road victory.
Charleroi (3-6) helped the Falcons with five errors, accounting for five unearned runs.
Corey Lent improved to 3-0, striking out three and walking none.
Shane Roebuck led Brownsville (9-1, 12-2) with a double, single and four RBI. Travis Bevard had a two-run double and two singles.
Jacob Rechichar had four singles and four RBI in the win.
Eric Tedrow had three singles for the Cougars.

Southmoreland 11, Greensburg Salem 9 – Southmoreland built a lead and then held on Wednesday afternoon for an 11-9 Section 2-AAA victory against visiting Greensburg Salem.
The Scotties (5-5, 8-8) led 7-3 after the second inning and 11-3 through four innings. The Golden Lions (4-6, 5-9) scored two runs in the top of the fifth and four more in the sixth.
Mark Farmer earned the win for the Scotties.
Michael Baird hit a home run and drove in four runs. Hunter Schwartz had three hits and Andrew Polakovsky added a double.

Waynesburg Central 4, Chartiers-Houston 1 – Hunter Robinson went the distance and had three singles to lift visiting Waynesburg Central to a 4-1 Section 2-AA road victory at Chartiers-Houston on Wednesday.
The victory clinched a playoff berth for the Raiders, who improve to 8-3 in the section and 9-4 overall.
Leading 1-0 through three innings, Waynesburg’s Nick Fox hit a two-out 0-2 pitch for a single to keep the inning alive. Braden Boosel followed with an RBI single for the second run of the inning.
Boosel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
The Bucs (5-5, 5-7) scored in the bottom of the fourth, but the Raiders got the run back in the top of the sixth.
Robinson allowed five hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
Robert James went 2-for-3 for the Bucs.

Geibel Catholic 13, Clairton 12 – Geibel Catholic had a tough go Wednesday afternoon, but the Gators managed to hold on for a 13-12 Section 2-A victory over the visiting Bears, their first of the season.
Geibel (1-8, 1-11) led 2-1 after the first inning and 10-2 after four innings. Clairton countered with eight in the top of the fifth inning, but the Gators scored three over the next two innings.
The Bears drew close with two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Steve Conko had three hits for the Gators, including a pair of doubles. Nick Speeney also had a double. Kyle Toth earned the win.

Washington 13, Frazier 0 – Washington scored in all but the third inning Wednesday afternoon as the Prexies cruised to a 13-0 Section 2-AA road victory at Frazier.
Jordan Mooney had a big game for Washington (8-2, 8-3) with four hits, including a pair of doubles and a triple, and six RBI. Jackson Interval doubled.
Cody Morris and losing pitcher Logan Muzina had the lone hits, both singles, for Frazier (0-8, 0-12).

Norwin 11, Connellsville 1 – Norwin scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday afternoon to invoke the mercy rule as the Knights defeated visiting Connellsville, 11-1, in Section 2-AAAA action.
Reno Rainey blasted two home runs for Norwin (7-2, 9-3), a two-run shot in the first inning and a three-run blast in the fifth.
Roy Belchick went 4-for-4 with four singles, Ethan Sikora had a pair of doubles and Brad Lucas added a double.
Derek Orndorff drove in Dakota McWilliams in the fifth inning for the Falcons’ only run.
Connellsville slips to 3-6 in the section and 8-8 overall.

West Mifflin 5, Laurel Highlands 1 – Laurel Highlands could only muster a run Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 5-1 game to visiting West Mifflin in Section 4-AAA action.
The Mustangs slip to 6-5 in the section and 6-9 overall. Laurel Highlands can still control its playoff hopes with games against contenders Ringgold and Elizabeth-Forward on the road and at Hutchinson against Uniontown.
Laurel Highlands defeated Ringgold and Uniontown the first time around, and dropped a 1-0 decision to Elizabeth-Forward.
Dominic Peroni accounted for the only run with a home run in the bottom of the second inning.
The lead stood until the Titans (9-2, 11-4) scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Todd Sekowski and Kevin Dulak doubled for West Mifflin. Zach Salmon went the distance for the win, allowing five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Hempfield 15, Albert Gallatin 2 – Hempfield clinched the Section 2-AAAA title Wednesday with a 15-2 victory in five innings at Albert Gallatin.
Eric Loucks and Dom Mori belted home runs for the Spartans, and Jordan Feidor doubled. Hempfield improves to 9-0 in the section and 12-5 overall.
Charlie Varriano struck out five and walked one in the victory.
R.J. Hlatky had two singles, scored a run and drove in one. Nate Torbich only went two innings in the loss.
The Colonials slip to 0-9 in the section and 3-10 overall.

Carmichaels 4, Bentworth 0 – Carmichaels kept its hopes of at least a share of the Section 1-A title alive Wednesday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over visiting Bentworth.
The Mikes improve to 6-2 in the section and 10-2 overall. Carmichaels has remaining games with California today and Jefferson-Morgan on Friday.
The Bearcats are now 7-2 and 10-3 overall and have one game left with California.
Leading 1-0 through four innings, the Mikes’ Michael Blasinsky blasted a three-run home run over the right-center field fence for a 4-0 lead.
Jacob Kinsell (4-1) made the lead stand, scattering three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. The Mikes committed two errors in the first inning, but Kinsell pitched out of the jam.
“Jacob threw a nice game. He was in command the whole way,” praised Carmichaels coach Dickie Krause.
The Mikes Jacob Wamsley had a pair of singles, including a run-producing hit in the third inning.
Softball
Jeannette 12, Geibel Catholic 6 – Jeannette broke a tie with six runs in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon for a 12-6 Section 2-A road victory against Geibel Catholic at Loucks Park in Scottdale.
The Lady Gators (0-8, 0-9) led 2-0 after the first inning and 4-2 after three innings. Jeannette scored four runs for a 6-4 lead, but Geibel tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Karly Judy had a double for Geibel.
Kay Kay Crosby led Jeannette with three hits, including a home run. Chloe Stein had three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run.

Mapletown 10, California 4 – The Lady Maples scored six runs in the middle three innings Wednesday afternoon as Mapletown defeated visiting California, 10-4, for a non-section victory.
Mapletown (9-5) led 3-1 after the first inning and 4-3 after the second, but the Lady Trojans tied the game in the top of the third.
The Lady Maples regained the lead with fours in the bottom of the fourth inning. They added a couple of insurance runs in the sixth.
Abby McIntire earned the win, and also had single and two RBI. Abby Shipley had a pair of doubles, a single and an RBI. Lauren Adams, Amelia Foreman and Maddie Bogden all had run-scoring hits.
