Harry Hiles Applause

Brownsville Rotary Club recently honored Harry J. Hiles as its December student of the month.

A senior at Brownsville Area High School, he is a son of Mary and Harry Hiles.

Hiles has been awarded Brownsville’s Falcon of the month four times throughout his high school career as well the Fayette Chamber of Commerce student of the month for January 2015. He also received the Superintendent Award.

In school, Hiles is I captain of the boys cross country team (winning Section Champs in 2014), a senior captain of varsity track and field, and a member of LEO club, Interact Club (board of directors), Environmental Club, FBLA (president), debate team, Spanish Honor Society (president), National Honor Society, Thespian Society, and musical, performing four years in the casts of “The Wedding Singer,” “Hairspray,” “A Christmas Carol” and plans to be a part of this year’s musical “In The Heights.”

He has performed clean-ups as well as planted flowers at the LaFayette Memorial through the Environmental Club, helped Interact with the CYS Christmas Party for three consecutive years by bringing in toys for underprivileged children and assisted Brownsville’s musical program in building sets on and off stage for productions. He is chairman of a Color Run that the Interact club and Cross Country team is putting together.

After high school, Hiles plans to either enroll at Saint Vincent University with the hopes of pursuing a medical career or enlist in the Navy.
