Weekly Awards
Waynesburg University had two members from its men’s and women’s basketball teams lead their
respective teams over rival Washington & Jefferson and Saint Vincent on the court during the last week. Thus, deserving the awards for Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week.
Freshman Addy Knetzer led the way for the women, as she scored a team-high 18 points off the bench in the Jackets’ 77-76 win in a game that came down to the final seconds. The Houston, Pennsylvania native also was able to pull down another team-high 12 rebounds.
For the past two games, Knetzer has averaged 11 points per game, while shooting just under .500 from the floor. On the season, she is amongst the team leaders in
scoring, rebounding, steals, blocks and field goal percentage.
On the men’s side of the ball, junior B.J. Durham has been a big part of the Yellow Jackets’ recent hot streak. The Maryland native’s biggest moment of the year came when he hit a game-winning floater with four seconds remaining on the clock against Saint Vincent last Wednesday inside the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse..
Durham has also averaged 11 points over the last two games while scoring 16 points in a 66-65 victory over the Bearcats. He is shooting around .400 on the year from three-point land and .750 from the charity stripe, while being amongst the team leaders in steals, assists and scoring.
Both teams are scheduled to hit the hardwood again Saturday as they travel to Bethany, West Virginia to take on the Bison in a critical conference road match-up for both sides. The Waynesburg women are scheduled to at 2 p.m., while the men will follow shortly after the conclusion of the women’s game.
