SHIPPENSBURG — Maris Seto was disappointed she missed the finals of the girls Class AA long jump Friday morning, but the Brownsville junior came back in the afternoon for a medal in the high jump at the PIAA Individual Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium.

Seto was clean through her first four heights until she checked out at 5-6 to finish tied for fourth place.

“I PR’d for this year and tied my personal best,” said Seto. “This is the first time I went 5-4 without any misses.”

Coming up short in the long jump fueled her desire to medal in the high jump.

“I jumped 16-8 and 16-9 went to the finals. (She told herself) to do better in the high jump,” explained Seto.

She said she was close to moving up one step on the awards podium.

“I was close (at 5-6). I thought I had it on my last attempt,” said Seto.

Seto has the triple jump remaining on Saturday.

Seto finished 11th in the long jump, won by Athens’ Breana Gambrell with a jump of 18-4. Tyrone’s Erika Voyzey won the high jump with a jump of 5-8.
