Southwest Regional Medical Center recognized by SafeCare Group
Southwest Regional Medical Center (SRMC) has been named by the SafeCare Group as a 2014-2015 100 SafeCare Hospital in the “Under 100 Bed” category.
This national designation places the hospital in the top two percent nationally for hospitals under 100 beds as it relates to the selection criteria.
“We are incredibly proud of this designation and all of our physicians, nurses and employees who worked so diligently to earn it,” said Cindy Cowie, CEO of SRMC.
“I see our employees go above and beyond each and every day to ensure we are providing the best care possible. This designation validates their extraordinary hard work and dedication.”
To determine the designation, The SafeCare Group analyzed hospital data for 40 Affordable Care Act measures from the 2014-2015 timeframe. These 40 measures are classified under three overall categories including efficiency, patient safety and quality.
The analysis identified hospitals free of federal violations, and with comparatively low: Risk-standardized 30-day mortality rates, 30-day readmissions, complication rates in medical and surgical care and medical and surgical infections.
The analysis also identified hospitals with comparative high ratings for medical and surgical processes of care measures for: Acute Myocardial Infarction (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care improvement project (SCIP) and patient satisfaction scores.
Only the top 100 hospitals under 100 beds made the 100 SafeCare Hospitals® Under 100 Beds list. A total of 1,088 hospitals were analyzed. If all U.S. hospitals attained the 100 SafeCare Hospitals® level, there would be improvement in the more than 400,000 hospital deaths and close to 5.1 million preventable complications that occur each year.
“The 100 SafeCare Hospitals listing recognizes outstanding hospitals in the areas of processes of care, outcomes of care, and efficacy of care, and without violations of care,” said Dr. Yisrael Safeek, MD, MBA, founder and chairman of The SafeCare Group®.
Officials from SRMC also recently announced that current owner RegionalCare Hospital Partners has entered into an agreement with Washington Health System (WHS) for Southwest Regional Medical Center to become a part of WHS.
It is anticipated this transaction will be completed on July 1.
“This designation is very much something to celebrate,” said Terry Wiltrout, Vice President of Operations for WHS.
“I congratulate everyone who contributed to achieve this impressive distinction.”
