Scottdale man pleads guilty to homicide by vehicle
A Scottdale man pleaded guilty in Fayette County Court on Friday to charges stemming from a fatal vehicle crash.
Evan Yuhouse, 25, represented by attorney Patrick McDaniel, entered a guilty plea to three counts of accidents involving death or injury, one count of homicide by vehicle, and several other summary traffic violations.
Because Yuhouse entered a general plea, the sentence will be at the discretion of the judge.
Senior Judge Gerald R. Solomon noted that the maximum penalty for accidents involving death or personal injury is 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. The maximum penalty for homicide by vehicle is seven years and a $10,000 fine, Solomon said.
According to Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Casini, Yuhouse lost control of his car and hit a barrier near the Pleasant Valley Country Club on Route 982 in Bullskin Township in the early hours of April 3, 2014.
William Romesburg, 42, was a passenger in Yuhouse’s vehicle, and he died the following day from his injuries. Two other passengers, Matthew G. Lee and Winston Watson, survived, with serious injuries, Casini said.
Police said Yuhouse fled the scene of the accident but turned himself in hours later, reportedly admitting he was the driver.
Yuhouse will appear before Solomon for sentencing on Nov. 20 at 1:45 p.m.
