The 13th and final week of the 2016 Shape-Up Challenge has come, and with it came impressive results proved by the scale, the tape measure and the evaluations.

In honor of the final week of the challenge, Uniontown YMCA marketing and wellness director Pam George, along with trainers Destiny Grimm and Tyler Kurosky, re-evaluated each contestant to compare their results with the results from the same evaluations that were recorded during week one.

“You had 13 weeks to hit it, but truthfully my hope for all of you is that you will continue on your fitness journey,” George said. “It doesn’t end with these ‘evals.’ I know you didn’t get to your goal weight in 13 weeks, but you all have improved so much.”

Beginning and final waist measurements for each contestant are listed below. The average loss of inches around the waist was 5.65 inches for this group. Measurements were conducted for the thigh, hip, arm, chest and shoulders.

Each contestant was also tested for their body fat percentage. Beginning and final body fat percentages for each contestant are: Christine Schock, 44.3 percent to 40.5 percent; Todd McGee, 44.4 percent to 41.5 percent; Kate Daugherty, 46.4 percent to 45 percent; Twila Wynn, 44.7 percent to 41.5 percent; Miranda Novak, 45.1 percent to 41.8 percent; Michelle Nehls, 45.7 percent to 39.5 percent; Fran Kirchner, 50 percent to 47.7 percent; Gina Michael, 38.9 percent to 34.5 percent; Kevin Myers, 41.7 percent to 40.4 percent; and Susan Shoemaker, 45.9 percent to 42.5 percent.

Next, the contestants moved on to completing the physical part of the evaluations. For the cardiovascular evaluation, the 10 contestants had to walk or run as many laps as they could around the Y’s indoor track during a 12-minute time span. The Shape-Up contestants were also tested for muscular endurance as they were asked to complete as many push-ups and sit-ups as they could in one minute. Beginning and final scores for each contestant are:  Christine Schock, 44.3 percent to 40.5 percent; Todd McGee, 44.4 percent to 41.5 percent; Kate Daugherty, 46.4 percent to 45 percent; Twila Wynn, 44.7 percent to 41.5 percent; Miranda Novak, 45.1 percent to 41.8 percent; Michelle Nehls, 45.7 percent to 39.5 percent; Fran Kirchner, 50 percent to 47.7 percent; Gina Michael, 38.9 percent to 34.5 percent; Kevin Myers, 41.7 percent to 40.4 percent; and Susan Shoemaker, 45.9 percent to 42.5 percent.

Touching base with the scale this week, George decided to keep the weights a secret until next week’s final reveal.

“I’m going to weigh you each one at a time alone, and you will step on the scale backwards so you won’t know the numbers” she said.

The reveal will take place at 7 p.m. in the front lobby of the YMCA. It will air live on heraldstandard.com.

Before wrapping up the final week of the challenge, George told the contestants she was proud of all of them and noted that of the four editions this is the first that not a single contestant dropped out.
