Readers continue to support Give-A-Christmas

With just days left in the 2016 Give-A-Christmas campaign, Herald-Standard readers continue to send in donations to make the newest total $13,281.68.
“We’re very happy to receive all these donations. The Herald-Standard’s readers have been very generous,” said Sparkle, the Christmas star, who is the official mascot for the campaign. “But remember that we want to raise $25,000 to benefit the Herald-Standard in this area. We could use some more help.”
The latest donations included some thoughtful notes:
“This money is in memory of our youngest daughter, Janeen Blatt, who died March 26, 2015. She was a special-needs child but defied doctors’ predictions and learned to read, went to Disney World four times, went to Broadway, New York, and had a wonderful life. She is proof anyone can achieve their dreams despite hardship. She was wonderful,” wrote Sherri and Paul Blatt of Connellsville.
“Dear Sparkle, God bless you for all your good work. This gift is in honor of our grandchildren: Austin, Alexis, April Wivell, Caileigh, Braden, Maeve, Ellie and Enzo Carei, Bailey, Emily and Eppie Gammon. Merry Christmas,” wrote Darrell and Joyce Smith of Brownsville.
“Let’s pray for peace on Earth. Merry Christmas to all,” wrote Betty Gaydos of Uniontown.
“What beautiful sentiments and lovely thoughts,” said Sparkle. “I’m very touched.”
The Christmas star reminds readers that the deadline for Give-A-Christmas contributions is 5 p.m. Thursday.
“Please, if you plan to help, send in your donations right away,” said Sparkle, “and we want to thank everyone who is participating.”
Donations can be sent to Give-A-Christmas, 8-18 East Church St., Uniontown, PA 15401 or drop them off at the Herald-Standard office during business hours. Deadline for contributions is 5 p.m. Thursday.
The final amount collected will be announced in the Christmas Day edition of the Herald-Standard.
