A group of militiamen has taken over a federal facility in Oregon to publicize their frustration with prison sentences handed down for two men who started fires on their land which spread to federal land. The men claim the fires were necessary. The occupiers are opposed to federal rules which they contend restrains the freedom of such ranchers. Do you sympathize with the occupiers? Do you think they have a valid point? Or do you think the government should take whatever action is necessary to send a message that such incidents won’t be tolerated.
“First off they don’t even represent the two farmers going to jail. These white thugs have their own agenda. I know for a fact if they where black, or Muslim, they would have been shot as soon as they walked on federal land with a gun!”
“They want to use federal property as their own. The two ranchers that started a fire that spread to a migratory bird refuge want nothing to do with this protest.”
“Unfortunately, I think this is just the beginning of stuff like this. I saw a news clip where a retired colonel actually called Obama a vulgar word right on TV. Things are only going to get worse.”
“I don’t see how federal rules constrain the freedom of ranchers. Last year BLM leased 155 million acres for $12.1 million in grazing fees (under 8 cents an acre). Ranchers also get subsidized for livestock lost to predators and natural disasters, and benefit from the emergency feed program as well as taxpayer-funded pest and predator control.”
“The real lunatics are in Washington, D.C., passing laws left and right.”
“The last time I looked, conservative Republicans are the majority on the Congress. Are you one of those right-wing, extremists? Come on back to the GOP mainstream.”
“You’re just one of those Hillary supporters bashing people trying to do something good.”
“I don’t support Hillary by any means. In fact, I don’t allow myself to be defined by any political genre. Too many people allow themselves to be brainwashed instead of forming an intelligent and thought-out opinion of their own.
“I would definitely not vote for the most corrupt person to ever run for president. She has already been bought and paid for. She is making history by being the first person to run for president who is under investigation by the FBI. Makes you wonder why anyone would support her.”
“All politicians have been bought and paid for.”
“As long as major companies can donate millions of dollars to campaigns, politicians will not be working for the average citizen.”
“What about Trump? He doesn’t accept money from big companies or special interests. Meanwhile, Hillary is taking money in through the Clinton foundation and Bill’s speaking fees.”
“I’m sure we can count on Trump to act in the best interests of the working people of America. No working person should ever vote for him.”
He won’t even let them unionize.”
“Crossing state lines to commit an armed takeover of a government facility is a felony. It is also a violation of the Patriot Act. Are there empty beds at GITMO for these people.”
“So, all the rioters we saw this summer should go there too. Sounds fair to me.”
‘I think what they did was criminal and should be dealt with as such. Give them 60 minutes to vacate or something will happen and it won’t be pretty.”
“Good thing that lots of beds are open down at GITMO.”
