Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’s plan for a government-run health care system from cradle to grave is coming under criticism for being unrealistic and too costly. What do you think about the plan?

“We’ve seen for the last eight years tea party obstructionism has produced absolutely nothing. The tea party tactic of obstructionism has cost the American people millions of dollars in wasted votes trying to repeal Obamacare on the House and Senate floor that have produced more debt for the American people and nothing else. The tea party has actively destroyed the free exchange of ideas, open debate and compromise, which are all necessary to get things done in Washington and anywhere else. I think once the tea partiers are gone and grownups are in control again, our country will work like the founders expected, and once again we’ll be the greatest nation in the world.”

“You make me laugh out loud with your last line about the founders. Their belief was the federal government would be the smallest entity in our lives followed by the states and you and only you will have the individual freedom to do whatever you want as long as it does not infringe on my life, liberty and property. People have been brainwashed that Washington is the answer to everything. Reagan said it best, the nine scariest words are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”‘

“How much does it cost us to support people who are not insured or underinsured? I’m not just talking money. I’m not just talking about people who abuse the system. How many lives have been lost because a good person had a real problem and didn’t go to the doctor because they were between jobs or afraid their insurance wouldn’t cover it? How many people have lost someone because they didn’t go to the doctor or because they couldn’t afford a treatment or medication?”

“I’ve had insurance most of my adult life, and I still have no idea how much my next checkup will cost me. I had blood work done and had to sign a form saying that if insurance doesn’t cover it, I had to pay for it all on a card that they swiped. The cost was $600. Who can take that kind of hit? The lab, knowing what insurance I have, couldn’t even tell me if I was covered.”

“Something is broken and has been broken for far longer than Obama has been around. We need a new system. A simple system. A system that values saving lives over being profitable to fake non-profits like UPMC. I don’t care if you call it socialism or big government or costly. I really don’t care. I care about losing friends and family who (like all of us) have garbage coverage because we need to make big insurance even more billions this year.”

“Good luck with the Republicans, Bernie. Sounds good, but they will fight it tooth and nail.”
