Open house scheduled
The Coal and Coke Heritage Center at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will hold an open house featuring “Christmas in the Coal Patch” exhibition from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 2.
The mini-exhibition shows how Christmas was celebrated by the Slovakian, Polish, Carpatho-Rusyn, and Italian immigrant families living in mining company towns of southwestern Pennsylvania.
The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 through Jan. 9.

Craft show set
The Carmichaels Musical Mikes Chorus will sponsor its annual holiday craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at Carmichaels Elementary School.
The event will include local hand-made items for sale, as well as a raffle and Chinese auction.
The Musical Mikes will perform Christmas concerts at 12:30 and 3:00 pm.
There is no charge for admission. All proceeds support the choral music program at Carmichaels Elementary School.
Seminar slated
California University of Pennsylvania’s Government Agency Coordination Office will hold a seminar on “Doing Business with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP)” from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Pittsburgh.
Companies will learn how to work with the HACP and support the authority’s mission to develop and make available affordable housing to over 20,000 Pittsburgh citizens.
The seminar is free to attend. Pre-registration is suggested by Dec. 2.

Science Day planned
The department of chemistry and forensic science at Waynesburg University will hold its annual Science Day event for prospective students Dec. 8.
The event will offer presentations, demonstrations and hands-on activities directed by Waynesburg faculty, in addition to discussions about what it is like to study science in college and the benefits of pursuing a degree in science.
The university will also host an additional Science Day event for local high school students April 20, 2017.
