Laskey scores 46 in LH’s 78-68 loss
Bryce Laskey scored 46 points Tuesday night as visiting Laurel Highlands came up short on the road at Greensburg Salem, falling 78-68 in non-section action.
Laskey scored 17 points in the first half with the Mustangs (2-3) trailing 43-25 at the break. Laskey scored 12 field goals, four 3-pointers and went 10-of-11 from the foul line.
Marvel McGowan led the Golden Lions (5-0) with 25 points. Rylan Crise scored 17 and Donte Parsons added 16.

Bentworth 68, Jefferson-Morgan 44 – Levin Jordan scored 31 points Tuesday night to lead visiting Bentworth to a 68-44 Section 2-AA victory at Jefferson-Morgan.
The Bearcats improve to 1-1 in the section and 3-1 overall, while the Rockets slip to 0-2 in the section and 4-3 overall.
Steven Harner was also in double figures for Bentworth with 19.
D.L. Garrett led the Rockets with 19 points.

South Park 78, Belle Vernon 71 – The Belle Vernon boys led 20-18 after the first quarter and 42-40 at halftime, but the visiting Leopards couldn’t hold the lead in the second half Tuesday night in a 78-71 Section 3-AAAA loss at South Park.
The Leopards (1-1, 3-2) led 62-59 after three quarters, but South Park rallied in the fourth quarter, 19-9, for the come-from-behind win.
Cam Nusser and Derek Thomas shared scoring honors for Belle Vernon with 16 points apiece. Bryce Washington added 14.
South Park’s Damon Smith scored a game-high 28 points. Hunter Lindsay finished with 14 and Jamar Jacobs added 13.

Southmoreland 83, Beth-Center 69 – The Southmoreland boys scored 52 points in the second half Tuesday night as the Scotties defeated visiting Beth-Center, 83-59, in Section 3-AAA action.
The Scotties (1-1, 2-3) led 31-19 at halftime.
Southmoreland’s Ronnie Robinson scored a game-high 23 points. Cade Richter finished with 21 and Brett Glowacki scored 15. Riley Comforti added 13.
Andrew Bower and Jacob Bobbs shared scoring honors for the Bulldogs (0-2, 2-4) with 18 points apiece. JJ Green finished with 12 and Easton McDaniel added 10.

Chartiers-Houston 72, Carmichaels 48 – The Carmichaels boys trailed 28-14 at halftime and then Chartiers-Houston scored 32 points in the third quarter on its way to a 72-48 Section 2-AA win Tuesday night.
Andrew Clark led the Bucs (1-0, 4-1) with a game-high 27 points. Cam Hanley added 14.
Jacob Lowry was the high scorer for the Mikes (0-2, 3-2) with 17 points. Nick Mundell finished with 12.

Fort Cherry 78, California 46 – Ryhan Culberson poured in a game-high 34 points Tuesday night to lead Fort Cherry to a 78-46 Section 2-AA victory over visiting California.
Fort Cherry (2-0, 2-3) led 15-2 after the first quarter and steadily pulled away over the final three quarters.
Aidan Higham added 15 and Stephen Lacek and Zachary Vincenti both finished with 11.
Ben Wilson led the Trojans (1-1, 4-2) with 16 points. Colin Phillips scored 11 and Dru Miller added 10.

Deer Lakes 51, Yough 50 – Yough’s rally fell short in the fourth quarter Tuesday night, as Deer Lakes returned home with a 61-50 road victory in Section 1-AAAA action.
Deer Lakes (1-1, 3-3) led 16-10 after the first quarter and 27-23 at halftime. The visitors pulled away in the third quarter with a 23-13 advantage.
Jarett Bach and Gamal Marballie shared scoring honors for the Cougars (0-2, 1-6) with 13 points apiece.
Deer Lakes’ Jake Kelly scored a game-high 18 points. Matt Kadlick added 11.

Derry 53, Mount Pleasant 38 – The Mount Pleasant boys trailed 17-5 after the first quarter Tuesday night and never recovered in a 53-38 Section 1-AAAA loss to visiting Derry.
The Vikings (0-1, 0-5) trailed 28-17 at halftime and 39-25 after three quarters.
JJ Johnson scored 15 points for Mount Pleasant.
Derry’s Conner Watt scored a game-high 17 points. John Kerr added 13.

Connellsville 45, Peters Twp. 39 – Seth Younkin powered his way to a game-high 27 points Tuesday night to lead visiting Connellsville to a 45-39 Section 2-AAAAAA victory at Peters Twp.
The Falcons (2-0, 5-1) led 11-2 after the first quarter and 23-12 at halftime. The Indians (0-2, 3-2) held a 16-9 scoring advantage in the third quarter.
Colin Cote led Peters Twp. with 12 points.

West Mifflin 64, Ringgold 44 – Ringgold fell behind early and didn’t recover in a 64-44 road loss at West Mifflin in Section 1-AAAAA action Tuesday night.
The Titans (1-0, 2-1) led 11-10, 27-15 and 42-32 at the quarter breaks.
Ben Lawrence led the Rams (0-2, 1-5) with 14 points. Jaden Taylor added 13.
West Mifflin’s Joshua Brown shared game-scoring honors with 14 points. London Jordan finished with 10.

Albert Gallatin 61, Thomas Jefferson 42 – The Albert Gallatin boys raced out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter Tuesday night on the way to a 61-42 Section 1-AAAAA road victory at Thomas Jefferson.
The Colonials (1-1, 3-4) led 23-18 at halftime and 48-31 after three quarters.
Nate English scored a game-high 19 points for Albert Gallatin. James Peggues (14), Matt Rankin (13), and Colby Uphold (11) also scored double figures for the Colonials.
Noah Palmer led the Jaguars (1-1, 2-3) with 16 points.
Girls basketball
Monessen 37, Clairton 36 – Qitarah Hardison’s foul shots with 2.6 seconds remaining in the game Tuesday night lifted Monessen to a 37-36 non-section victory over visiting Clairton, snapping a 26-game losing streak.
The Lady Bears (2-4) led 14-12 after the first quarter, but Monessen pulled ahead at halftime, 21-20. Clairton tied the game after three quarters, and Monessen (1-4) then pulled out the win in the waning moments of the fourth quarter.
Hardison scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Marqula Green pulled down 12 rebounds.
Evanti Gibson scored 14 points for Clairton.

Uniontown 54, Derry 35 – The Uniontown girls won their second game in as many nights with a 54-35 non-section win Tuesday over visiting Derry.
The Lady Raiders improve to 3-3, while the Lady Trojans fall to 0-5.
Uniontown moved into the lead in the second half, taking a 31-15 advantage into the third quarter.
Kelsea Rose scored a game-high 22 points for the Lady Raiders. Mya Murray added 17.
Derry’s Destiny Roberts scored 11.

Ringgold 49, Belle Vernon 47 – Ringgold force overtime Tuesday night, and the Lady Rams had the better of the extra period for a tight 49-47 non-section win over visiting Belle Vernon.
Ringgold (4-3) pulled out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Leopards countered with a 16-9 advantage in the second quarter.
Belle Vernon (4-2) then pulled into the lead after three quarters, 30-29.
Ashley Briscoe scored a game-high 17 points for Ringgold. Taylor Costa added 10.
Kelsey Green and Caitlyn Trombley both scored 12 for Belle Vernon.
Wreslting
Beth-Center 60, West Greene 18 – Beth-Center used six forfeits and four falls to remain undefeated in Section 2-AA (2A) with a 60-18 victory on Tuesday at West Greene.
The Bulldogs’ Ronald White (285), Richard LaRosa (120), Jacob Housel (152), JJ Berish (170), Evan Dreucci (182) and Dominic Fundy (195) picked up forfeits.
Beth-Center’s returning state qualifier Jimmy Gwyer picked up a fall in 1:27 over John McCreedy at 126 pounds. Teammate Todd Fisher pinned Brayden Moody in 1:31 at 132 and the Bulldogs’ Chase Lacey planked Wyatt Tedrow in 40 seconds at 138. Makiah Bayus finished off Beth-Center’s (2-0) run of falls in pinning Wyatt Hoag in 3:44 at 145.
The dual meet started at 220, and the Pioneers (0-2) got off to a great start when Connor Main pinned Javone Hayger in 1:08. Teammate Isaac Courtwright earned a fall in 1:23 over Zachary Hayden at 160. West Greene’s Austin Orndoff won by forfeit at 106.
Both teams are off until they compete on Dec. 28 and 29 at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic.
Hockey
Connellsville 5, Ringgold 2 – Gregory Hensh’s empty net goal with 24 seconds remaining secured Connellsville’s 5-2 victory over visiting Ringgold Tuesday night at the Ice Mine in PIHL Division 2 action.
Hensh opened the scoring seven minutes into the game on Ryan Brown’s assist. Brown then scored just over seven minutes later off a Travis Sipple pass.
Sipple gave the Falcons (5-4-2) a 3-0 lead 1:56 into the second period. Alexander Gesk assisted.
Ringgold cracked the scoreboard with around three minutes left in the second period when Noah Schroeder netted Ryan Marek’s pass. But, Brown responded with his second goal of the game in the final minute of the second period off a Michael McKitrick assist.
Nathan Todd scored at 4:44 of the third period for the Rams (7-2-0) off assists from Richard Boysen and Noah Schroeder.
Sebastian Skarzenski turned aside 25 shots for the Falcons. Ringgold’s Evan Cook also made 25 saves.
