Laurel Highlands class of 2017 to graduate
Members of the Laurel Highlands High School Class of 2017 will receive their diplomas at a ceremony today at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Doors open at 5:30, with a slideshow beginning at 6:30.
Valedictorian Emily Rohm and salutatorian Tess Vanek will address their fellow graduates.
Rohm is a daughter of Carolyn and Kevin Rohm of Lemont Furnace. In school, she was involved with the National Honor Society and Student Forum.
She was also the recipient of the Tylar Andaloro Memoiral Academic Scholarship, the Challenge Program Academic Excellence Award, Rotary Student of the Month disticntion, English Advanced Placement Literature and Composition Award, Overall English Award, Science Advanced Placement Chemistry Award, Social Studies Advanced Placement U.S. Government Award and the Public Address Crew. She was also a student representative to the Laurel Highlands School District board of directors.
Rohm plans to attend Saint Vincent College after graduation.
Vanek is a daughter of Susan and Josef Vanek of Uniontown.
She was the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month award, Music and Theater Jazz Ensemble Award, Overall Music Award, Academy of Fine Arts Division of Music Graduate award, Instrumental Music Award, Overall Social Studies Award and the World Language Advanced Placement Spanish V Award.
She also participated in the Academic Quiz Team, Math Competition Team and National Honor Society.
Vanek plans to attend Duquesne University in the fall.
