GEORGES TWP. — The Fayette County Career and Technical Institute’s (FCCTI) joint operating committee Monday named Dr. Cynthia Shaw as the school’s new executive director.

The committee voted unanimously to appoint Shaw to the position for a 3-year term with compensation set at $95,000.

Shaw replaces Dr. Edward Jeffreys, who is set to retire June 30. Jeffreys served at the school for 17 years.

Shaw served for five years as the school’s assistant director and business manager before being named interim director in February, taking over the duties of Jeffreys, who began a leave of absence last November.

“Welcome officially,” committee President Michael Dunham said to Shaw following the vote.

Dunham said the committee did not seek other candidates for the position because it did not feel it was necessary.

“The board just simply was very, very satisfied with her track record and the job she has done for the last year,” said Dunham.

Shaw said she looks forward to continuing to work with the FCCTI committee and the school’s team of administrators, instructors and staff to serve the needs of students and the business community.

“The (FCCTI) team is still going in the same direction that Dr. Jeffreys started. We have a shared vision for the school,” said Shaw.

In a financial matter, the committee approved a resolution authorizing the issuance of a $4.3 million revenue anticipation note (RAN) through United Bank with a maturity date of June 30, 2018.

Solicitor Gary Frankhouser said the RAN should be finalized within a week’s time and will be used as needed throughout the year for cash flow.

Also Monday, the committee:

n Hired Allison Scaife as a half-day cosmetology instructor.

n Hired George Medved as a full-time diesel instructor.

n Approved the school’s insurance policies for property, general liability, crime, inland marine, automobile and umbrella liability coverage with Sprowls Insurance Group at a cost of $33,757.

n Authorized the school’s workers’ compensation with William Rittenhouse Agency Inc. at a cost of $43,550.
