Mount Pleasant man charged with theft

State police have charged Matthew Glenn Beers, 23, of 105 N. Shupe St., Mount Pleasant, with theft charges for allegedly stealing a car and using it to travel around and steal from other vehicles on Jan. 1 and 2.

Beers allegedly stole a white 2003 Hyundai Elantra from Painter Street in Everson and an Access Card and a bank card, which were in the car, police said.

He allegedly stole a Visa card from another car on Painter Street; a cell phone and other property from a vehicle on Kings Road in Upper Tyrone Township; about $20 from a vehicle on Everson Valley Road in Upper Tyrone and a purse containing a driver’s license and other property from a vehicle on Bell View Road in Bullskin Township, police said.

Beers allegedly abandoned the car behind a vacant building, the former Fat Boy’s Bar, on Route 119 in Bullskin Township where it was found on Jan. 4, state police said.

He was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle.
