Brownsville’s Quarzo finishes 10th in PIAA final
Brownsville sophomore Gionna Quarzo and senior Sara Vance capped the 2017 season Saturday morning by bringing home a medal from the PIAA Class AA Cross Country Championship.
Quarzo finished 10th overall in a time of 19:23, while Sara Vance was 21st in 19:51 to make the awards podium.
The top two teams and 25 individuals received awards.
The Lady Falcons finished eighth overall and had the best finish of the three WPIAL teams with 257 points. Quaker Valley was ninth with 262 and South Fayette was next with 264.
Jessica Vance (104 O/A, 21:07), Ashton Reposky (158, 21:55), and Hannah DeWitt (190, 22:49) rounded out the scoring runs for the Lady Falcons.
Kassidy Jackson (217, 25:08) and Mila Zaccagnini (220, 26:01) also ran in the Class AA championship.
Southmoreland senior Kaylee Farino capped her career by finishing 84th in Class AA with a time of 20:54.
Belle Vernon freshman Grace Henderson (122, 21:23), Uniontown senior Madison Bertovich (188, 22:44), and Ringgold freshman Andrea Kassa (156, 21:51) also competed in the Class AA final.
Danville won the team title with 121 points. Northern York’s Marlee Starliper won the race near the Giant Center in Hershey with a time of 17:50.
Geibel Catholic senior Monica Kolencik had a good showing in her first Class A championship, placing 72nd overall with a time of 21:26. West Greene junior McKenna Lampe was in her third state meet, finishing 138th in 22:31.
California freshman Makayla Boda finished 121st overall in Class A with a time of 22:15.
Marian Catholic’s Tina Capparell won the Class A title in 19:01. Fairview was the Class A team champion with 96 points.
Uniontown’s Sam Killinger led three teammates to the finish line in the Class AA final in 98th place with a time of 17:51. Teammates Austen Metts (113, 17:58), Cameron Kutek (125, 18:05), and Riley Gilleland (142, 18;12) followed soon after.
Jersey Shore’s Isaac Davis won the Class AA final in 15:56. Wyomissing Area took the team title with 105 points, just two ahead of York Suburban.
Cardinal O’Hara’s Elizabeth Mancini won the girls Class AAA race in 18:18, with Fox Chapel the team champion with 104 points.
Winchester Thurston’s Tristan Forsythe was the boys Class A champion with a time of 16:12. Penns Valley cruised to the team title with 68 points.
La Salle College and Council Rock North both finished with 130 points in the boys Class AAA final with the nod on criteria going to La Salle College. Neshaminy’s Rusty Kujdych won the individual title with a time of 15:47.
