South Fayette rallies past Laurel Highlands, 3-1

Laurel Highlands started strong but dropped a 3-1 decision to South Fayette in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAA volleyball playoffs on Wednesday at South Fayette.

The Fillies (10-5) won the first set, 25-23, but the Lady Lions (11-2) responded with victories in the next three sets. The scores were 25-18, 25-15 and 25-23.

Angel and Emily Buwawa once again were leaders for coach Emily Konter. Angel had six kills, 21 digs and two blocks, while Emily had 14 kills, 12 digs and two blocks.

Teammate Maddie Wheeler had 30 assists, 14 digs and two kills.

Laurel Highlands’ Abby Fleenor had five blocks.

South Fayette plays Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
