Challenger joins wife in Get Fit competition
Lifting weights and running aren’t new concepts for Get Fit contestant Randy Cantrell.
“I’ve always worked out since I was young,” he said. “But never this intense of a workout.”
Cantrell said he was ecstatic when he was picked for the Get Fit challenge along with his wife, Shellie. The couple applied for the competition, noting that they really wanted to try something different.
“And it’s absolutely the hardest workout I’ve ever done,” he said, adding with a laugh that he thought he was in shape. “I thought I could do this, blow everyone away and win, but no — everyone in our group is incredible. They’re blowing me away. It’s a big challenge, and it’s really intense.”
At home, his 11-year-old son Tristan is a source of motivation and inspiration for Cantrell.
“I want to be able to keep up with him as I get older and he wants to do more things,” he said, adding that his son is involved in gymnastics.
He also noted that his wife was a source of inspiration as she helps him at home and with eating right. They’re also built-in accountability for one another.
By day, Cantrell works at an HVAC and plumbing contracting company when he’s not at the gym or at home with his family.
But an outdoorsman at heart, he also enjoys returning home to Texas when he can to hunt whitetail deer and wild boar.
“I go down there with my dad and uncles and friends,” he said. “It’s something I really enjoy.”
Overall, Cantrell said he’s grateful to Jason and Amy Tungate and the coaches and team at CrossFit, and would recommend CrossFit to anyone.
“They’ve got your back,” he said.
