McGuffey tops Lady Falcons in offensive shootout, 25-13
McGuffey 25, Brownsville 13 – In a game that featured a combined 38 runs and 41 hits, McGuffey out-slugged host Brownsville, 25-13, in Section 3-AAA softball action on Monday.
A win would’ve lifted the Lady Falcons into a fourth-place tie with McGuffey.
The Lady Highlanders scored in four of their first five at bats to build a 14-1 advantage, but Brownsville erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a grand slam by Aubri Hogsett, to pull within four.
McGuffey (3-3, 3-3) answered with four runs in the top of the sixth and seven more i the seventh. The Lady Falcons (3-7, 1-5) put up three in their final at bat before succumbing.
Losing pitcher Payton Hall doubled and singled twice, and Madison Martin also had three hits to highlight Brownsville’s 18-hit attack. Chai Diggs doubled and singled, Hogsett added a double to her home run, and Savannah Urban also had two hits. Samantha Tressler added a double.
Emily Vinsky was credited with the win for the Highlanders. Brin Hunter and Kelly Muncie each doubled for the only extra-base hits in McGuffey’s 23-hit barrage.
