Vikings hold off Falcons, take over first place
Mount Pleasant held off Brownsville, 5-4, in a Section 3-AAA baseball battle on Monday to take over first place.
George Tetteris hit a three-run triple in a five-run fifth inning for the Vikings (5-3, 5-2), who now sit one-half game ahead of the Falcons (5-2, 4-2) and Waynesburg Central.
Pete Billey had two hits and winning pitcher Joe Shrum doubled for Mount Pleasant. Shrum tossed a complete game, allowing 10 hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Dylan Brosky doubled and scored for Brownsville, and D.J. Zimcosky also doubled. Colton Dellarose and John Havanec both singled and scored a run. Ricky Marucci singled and had the Falcons’ only RBI.
Losing pitcher Josh Davison gave up three earned runs on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts in five innings. Brosky tossed two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Brownsville took the early lead with two runs in the second, before Tetteris’ big blow ignited Mount Pleasant’s uprising in the fifth.
The Falcons cut the lead to one with a run in the sixth and one more in the seventh, but Shrum held on for the win.
