LH swimmers sweep meet from Latrobe
Laurel Highlands (girls) 96, Latrobe 90; Laurel Highlands (boys) 91, Latrobe 85 – Laurel Highlands held its own against visiting Latrobe Thursday night by sweeping a Section 1-AAA meet from the Wildcats.
The Fillies edged Latrobe, 96-90, while the LH boys won by the same margin, 91-85.
The girls meet was tied at 86 entering the 400 freestyle relay, and not only did the Fillies secure the victory, they did so in record-breaking style. Maria Mrosko, Jenna Roscoe, Gwyneth Hamilton and Rachel Roscoe finished first in a school-record time of 3:52.67. The time also met the WPIAL qualifying standard.
Hamilton won the 200 freestyle in a qualifying time of 2:00.96. Mrosko finished second with a qualifying time of 2:01.93.
Jenna Roscoe (200 IM, 2:21.77), Rachel Roscoe (50 freestyle, 25.16, WPIAL), and Mrosko (100 butterfly, 1:02.52) also had first-place finishes. Hamilton, Mrosko, Jenna Roscoe and Rachel Roscoe won the 200 freestyle in a qualifying time of 1:44.63.
Jacob Johnson, Jamey Siebart, Logan Kordich and Dylan Rice opened the meet for the Mustangs by winning the 200 medley relay in qualifying time of 1:49.25. Johnson, Siebart, Kordich and Jonathon Lewis won the 200 freestyle relay in a qualifying time of 1:36.67.
Lewis (200 freestyle, 1:57.48, WPIAL) and Johnson (100 freestyle, 49.70, WPIAL; 500 freestyle, 5:22.93, WPIAL) had individual first-place finishes.
John Ek won the diving with a qualifying score of 284.20 points. Rice was second with 216.25, also a qualifying mark.
