Fayette vo-tech board tables hiring of security director

GEORGES TWP. — The Fayette County Career and Technical Institute’s (FCCTI) joint operating committee this week tabled a motion to hire a new school security director.
The committee will reconvene in a special meeting next week in another attempt to hire someone to the position, which was left vacant with the resignation of its former safety and security chief earlier this month.
Committee solicitor Gary Frankhouser said the nine members present Monday could not come to a consensus for the hiring of any particular candidate. The committee voted 7-2 to table the motion.
Frankhouser said the 12-member committee requires a simple majority of seven votes to pass an action item. During a work session prior to Monday’s voting meeting, the committee held a 20-minute executive session to discuss the candidates for the position.
Richard Gates and Melvyn Sepic voted against the tabling. Committee members Ron Dellarose Jr., Andy Dorsey and Paul Dunham were not in attendance.
Frankhouser said six individuals applied for the security director position. Five were interviewed after one candidate removed his name from consideration, he said.
The committee subsequently tabled a related motion to approve a compensation plan for the position.
At the conclusion of Monday’s meeting, the committee agreed to hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 3 to again vote on the matters.
The position was vacant due to the resignation of safety and security chief Jeff Myers, which the committee accepted Monday.
Myers served in the year-round security chief post at the school since February 2014 and held the 10-month security officer position for two years prior.
He was hired last month as warden for the Fayette County Prison.
