Mercyhurst junior and Laurel Highlands graduate Harison Laskey tied for fourth place Wednesday at the NCCA Division II Atlantic/East Region Championships held at Cobb Black Course on the Resort at Glade Springs (W.Va.).

Laskey had a three-round total of 216 (69-77-70) to finish nine strokes behind regional champion Minwoo Park, of Concordia, N.Y., who shot 207 (76-77-71).

The Lakers finished tied for fourth, as well, with a team total of 893 (296-305-292) to miss a playoff for a berth into the national final.

“It was a very solid three days of golf,” said Laskey.

Laskey was tied atop the leaderboard with Ryan Rucinski after Monday’s first round at 3-under.

Laskey had issues on the green in the second round, sliding down on the leaderboard into a tie for eighth place with a 5-over.

“I still hit the ball very well. I had 37 putts in the second round. I had 28 in the first round and 29 in the third,” explained Laskey. “The putts weren’t there. All my putts inside 10 feet were pulled.

“I kept it together in the front nine. I shot 5-over on the back.”

Laskey rebounded in the final round with a 3-under, tying for the fourth-best total of the third round.

“I kept myself in it and the team in it,” Laskey said of his final round score.”

Laskey missed a playoff for the second and final individual berth into the NCAA Championship by just one stroke.

“The team missed by one shot, too,” added Laskey.

Laskey has an internship lined up with Northwestern Mutual in Pittsburgh this summer, but his golf clubs won’t go into cold storage until the fall.

“I’m enjoying my last free summer,” said Laskey. “I’ll try to play in West Penn events. I’m taking it easy. I don’t want to overload myself.”
