Frazier boys, girls sweep track meet at Monessen

The Frazier boys and girls were too strong and too deep for Monessen and Geibel Catholic as the Commodores returned home with a Section 8-AA sweep.

The Commodores defeated the host Greyhounds, 88½-44½, and the Gators, 133-0. The Frazier girls beat Monessen, 113-12, and Geibel, 126-5.

Frazier’s Ryan Balentine (110 high hurdles, 17.41; 300 intermediate hurdles, 44.3), Julian Muccioli (100, 11.68; long jump, 21-6; triple jump, 42-11¾), Robert Acklin (1,600, 5:13; 800, 2:29), Gregory Lynch (shot put, 35-9; discus, 100-5), and Matthew Kordich (javelin, 109-3) swept the first-place finishes in the triangular.

The Commodores also won all three relays.

Kenny Fine tied for first in the high jump with a top effort of 5-10.

Che Hill won the 3,200 (12:52) for the Greyhounds.

The Lady Commodores’ Lizzie Dulla (100 high hurdles, 19.68), Skye Eicher (100, 12.19; 200, 26.8), Isabella Kudyba (1,600, 6:53), Kendall Shaporka (400, 1:09), Kaelyn Shaporka (300 intermediate hurdles, 56.09), Kiara Sumrok (800, 3:14), Nytasha Marteny (3,200, 14:56), Kristen Hartz (triple jump, 28-½), Madison Davis (shot put, 26-7), Jai’lah Belt (discus, 78-3½), and Harlyrae Geary (javelin, 89-9) all had first-place finishes against Geibel and Monessen.

Frazier won all three relays.

The Lady Greyhounds’ Alexandra DeFelices won the long jump with a leap of 15-1½.

High school baseball

Frazier 13, Mapletown 3 — Frazier pieced together five hits, 10 walks and three errors Monday afternoon to defeat the Maples in five innings in a game played at Wild Things Park.

The Commodores (2-1) scored in every inning. They opened with four in the bottom of the first, put across one in the second, added three more in the bottom of the third inning, and closed with five in the fourth.

Chase Hazelbaker, Trevor Hayes and Nino Sosnak all had an RBI single for Frazier.

Brayden Baccino was the winning pitcher. Matt Atwood took the loss.

Norwin 13, Yough 3 — Norwin scored eight runs in its first at-bat Monday afternoon and the Knights added five more for a non-section victory in five innings at Yough.

The Cougars (2-2) responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, but Norwin countered with two runs in the top of the second.

The Knights (3-0) added three runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Logan Divald was the winning pitcher. Aidan Shephard stroked three doubles for the Knights. Logan Lebdzinskia also doubled and Jayden Walker legged out a triple.

Nate Wilkins took the loss for Yough. Vinny Martin had a double.

Washington 20, Jefferson-Morgan 5 — Washington put up 11 runs in the second inning Monday as the Prexies defeated visiting Jefferson-Morgan in non-section action.

The Rockets (0-3) scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Washington responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jefferson-Morgan tied the game in the top of the second, but the Prexies exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Washington scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to invoke the 15-run mercy rule.

Devin Stoneking took the loss for the Rockets.

Cooper Sharp was the winning pitcher and helped his cause with four runs scored. Asa Charnik sparked the offense with two singles, a double and five RBI.

Jefferson-Morgan committed eight errors.
