Brownsville’s Gionna Quarzo covered the eight laps of the 3,200 meters at the South Hills Classic Saturday faster than she had ever done in her three years of high school track & field.

Quarzo bettered her gold medal effort in last year’s PIAA Championships by near 20 seconds when she broke the tape in the winning time of 10:29.29, a meet record.

Shenango’s Carmen Medvit finished a distant second in 11:33.91.

Several other Lady Falcons had noteworthy performances at Baldwin.

Jamilah Copeland had a pair of top-8 finishes, placing third in the 200 (27.15) and fifth in the 100 (13.11).

Ashton Reposky finished fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:46.89, and Emma Seto tied for third in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5 feet. Aniya Tarpley was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 33-9¼. Elise Fields placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet.

The Falcons’ Nicholas Seto finished third in the triple jump, covering 42-4½ with his top effort.

Yough’s Julia Milcoff placed third in the discus with a throw of 99-7. Teammate Kylie Roebuck was eighth in the javelin with a top throw of 91-6.

The Cougars’ Hunter Bakewell was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 141-9.
