Lady Colonials lose section finale, 48-19
Penn Hills steadily pulled away in Saturday’s Section 3-AAAAA finale, and returned home from Albert Gallatin with a 48-19 victory.
The Lady Indians (11-3, 14-6) led 10-6, 23-9 and 34-17 at the quarter breaks.
Anaejah Harris and Bryn Bezjak shared scoring honors for the Lady Colonials (4-10, 7-12) with eight points apiece.
Delainey Carpenter and Amoni Blackwell both scored nine for Penn Hills.
Boys basketball
Propel Andrew Street 51, West Greene 36 — Propel Andrew Street broke the halftime tie with a 17-6 third-quarter advantage for a non-section victory over visiting West Greene.
The home team clinched the victory by outscoring the Pioneers in the final eight minutes, 17-13.
Nathan Brudnock led playoff-bound West Greene with 12 points.
Shane Walker scored a game-high 14 points for Propel Andrew Street (11-10), while Marcel Wallace added 13.
Penn Hills 58, Albert Gallatin 42 — Penn Hills built a 13-point lead in the first quarter and the Indians maintained the momentum for a Section 1-AAAAA win at Albert Gallatin.
Both teams will enter the WPIAL playoffs. Penn Hills improved to 12-0 in the section and 19-3 overall, while the Colonials slip to 5-7 in the section and 5-13 overall.
The Indians extended their lead to 40-20 at halftime and 54-25 through three quarters.
Nate English and Chandler Goodwin both scored nine points for Albert Gallatin.
Tyree Spencer scored a game-high 17 points for Penn Hills. Marshall McArthur added 14.
Men’s basketball
Saint Vincent 88, Waynesburg 60 — The Bearcats led 50-24 at halftime and then cruised to a Presidents’ Athletic Conference home victory.
Matt Popeck and Brennan Smith shared scoring honors for the Yellow Jackets (6-8, 7-16) with nine points apiece.
David Stephen scored a game-high 17 points for Saint Vincent (12-2, 19-4). Mike Simmons (13), Tom Kromka (12), and Shemar Bennett (10) also scored in double figures.
Women’s basketball
Saint Vincent 80, Waynesburg 57 — Saint Vincent pulled ahead in the first quarter and didn’t look back for a PAC home victory.
The Lady Bearcats (13-1, 19-4) controlled play in the first and fourth quarters by outscoring Waynesburg, 44-23.
Andrea Orlosky led the Yellow Jackets (5-9, 7-16) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Erin Joyce scored 11 and Haley Porter added 10.
Madison Kollar finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Maria Morgan (14) and Taylor Boring (10) also scored in double figures.
