The high school track & field season closed Memorial Day weekend, but Gionna Quarzo and Taylor Shriver continued their individual performances last weekend at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor.

The four-day national track & field meet was held at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.

Shriver, who enters her junior year this fall at Waynesburg Central, placed fifth in the pole vault. She needed three attempts to clear her opening height of 3.37 meters (11-¾), but was clean in the next two heights, 3.52 meters (11-6½) and 3.67 meters (12-½).

Kentucky’s Sara Ferguson finished first after she cleared 3.97 meters (13-¼).

Quarzo capped her record-breaking season by finishing seventh in the 5,000 meters. The Brownsville senior-to-be crossed the finish line in 16:56.76.

Maine’s Sydney Masciarelli finished first in 16:16.20.
