Penn State Fayette defeats Allegany, 8-7, on Salom’s walk-off single

Justin Salom singled in Austin Benton with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, an 8-7 non-conference win over visiting Allegany College of Maryland on Thursday.

The game was tied 7-7 when Benton was hit by a pitch leading off the ninth, took second on Matt Morgan’s (Ringgold) bunt single, went to third on Jaryn Addis’s (Brownsville) sacrifice bunt and came home on Salom’s hit to center.

Trevor Stewart (Brownsville) pitched one scoreless inning of relief to earn the win. Matt Huston took the loss for Allegany (5-8).

Austin Clark (Jefferson-Morgan) homered twice for the Lions (3-11), Noah Hansen had two doubles and Stewart and Morgan also each had two hits.

Brandon Lambert led off the game with a home run for Allegany, which also got a triple from Austin Miller and a double from Qynton Davis.

Fayette starting pitcher Brandon Bell (Uniontown) allowed three earned runs on eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

The Lions led 7-3 after seven innings but Allegany scored four runs in the eighth to tie it.
