Lady Buccaneers edge Lady Commodores, 2-1

Frazier’s Logan Hartman only allowed two hits, but the Lady Commodores committed two errors in a 2-1 Section 3-AA setback to Chartiers-Houston on Saturday at Frazier.

Hartman had 12 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings, but took the loss in the circle. She had one of the eight Frazier hits. Teammate Savannah Berkovich had an RBI triple in the bottom of the second to give the Lady Commodores (1-1, 2-1) a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Buccaneers (2-0, 5-0) tied the game in the third and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth. Charters-Houston’s Ella Brookman had five strikeouts and two walks while yielding eight hits in seven. Teammate Kacey Scears had an RBI single. The Lady Bucs’ Lauren Lober had the other single.

Ligonier Valley 3, Belle Vernon 1 — Ligonier Valley scored three runs in the top of the first and held off Belle Vernon for a non-section victory at Belle Vernon.

The Lady Leopards (1-1, 1-4) scored one run in the sixth, but the Lady Rams’ Jane Garver only allowed the one run and seven hits in seven innings. She had four strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

Belle Vernon’s Sophie Godzak yielded three runs (two earned) on nine hits in seven. She had eight strikeouts and walked two. She also had an RBI single. Teammate Ashley Joll doubled for the game’s lone extra-base hit. The Lady Leopards’ Mekenzie Sokol had two singles.

Courtney McioKlveen had three base hits for Ligonier Valley (3-0, 4-0). Teammate Mia Lynn added two singles.

Belle Vernon is at Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday in Section 2-AAAA play at 3:45 p.m.

Baseball

Carmichaels 6, Waynesburg Central 4 — Waynesburg Central rallied from three down in the top of the fifth, but Carmichaels scored two in the bottom of the inning for a non-section victory at Carmichaels Area High School.

The Mikes (3-0) scored two in the first and two in the third for a 4-1 lead before the Raiders (1-2) put up a three-spot in the fifth. Carmichaels scored the next two and Drake Long held the visitors off the scoreboard the next two innings for the save.

The Mikes’ Gavin Pratt allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings for the win. He had five strikeouts and walked two. Long yielded one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.

Carmichaels’ Zach Gamble had a double and three RBIs. He also walked. Teammate Matthew Barrish doubled, had an RBI and scored two runs. The Mikes’ Collin Reynolds had two singles.

Waynesburg Central’s Kyle Shriver and Trevor Stephenson had two hits apiece, including one double. Stephenson also had an RBI. Teammate Ryley Metheny had a solo home run and walked once.

Luke Robinson took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits in five innings. He had eight strikeouts and walked five.
