Fillies edge Lady Commodores in five-set thriller

For the second match this season, Frazier and Laurel Highlands had a five-set thriller, and the Fillies came out on top for a 3-2 non-section victory on Wednesday at Frazier.

Laurel Highlands (8-1, 11-2) one the fifth set, 15-8, for the victory. LH earned a 25-15 triumph in the first set before the Lady Commodores (8-0, 10-2) edged the visitors, 25-23, in the second set.

Laurel Highlands won the third set, 25-18, before Frazier tied the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.

The Fillies’ Maddie Wheeler led the match in assists with 36 and digs with 28. She also had two kills. Teammate Bella Buwawa had a match-high in kills with 12 and added 16 digs. LH’s Olivia Glusica had 11 digs.

The Lady Commodores’ Logan Hartman had 10 assists and eight kills, and teammate Sierra Twigg added eight kills and three blocks.

Frazier’s Alexis Lovis had 15 assists and teammate Mackenzie Kelly led her team in digs with 27. Jordin Brundege had 12 digs for the home team.

The Lady Commodores’ Jensyn Hartman led her team in service points with 10 and Kaelyn Shaporka added eight kills.

Laurel Highlands hosts Yough tonight at 7 p.m. in Section 3-AAA play.

Frazier is at Chartiers-Houston on Monday in Section 3-AA action at 7 p.m.
