Kijowski’s scores 100th career goal as Lady Raiders blank LH

Rhea Kijowski scored three goals and put her name in the Waynesburg Central girls soccer record book while leading the Lady Raiders to a 9-0 non-section victory over visiting Laurel Highlands on Thursday night.

Kijowski’s hat trick gives her 23 goals on the season and 100 in her high school career. The junior West Virginia recruit is the quickest in program history to the century mark. Former teammate Madison Clayton, currently playing for Pitt, is the only other Waynesburg girl to reach the 100-goal mark, having accomplished the feat her senior season.

Kijowski scored three of her team’s first four goals against the Fillies (4-9) with Ashlyn Basinger accounting for the third score. Erin Fitch scored the first of her two goals with 11:23 left in the first half to give the Lady Raiders (7-5) a 5-0 lead at intermission.

Fitch opened scoring in the second half 6:05 in. Waynesburg also got second-half goals from Callie Gibson, Hannah Cole and Kylie Sinn.

McKenzie Booth made five saves in recording the shutout. The Lady Raiders out-shot LH 15-5.

Boys soccer

Charleroi 13, Yough 0 – Cullen Woytovich scored six goals and added a pair of assists as Charleroi steamrolled visiting Yough in a Section 3-AA match.

Jace Kepich racked up three goals and four assists for the unbeaten, first-place Cougars (11-0, 13-0).

Eben McIntyre, Joey Caruso and Dom Yocolano each added a goal and an assist for Charleroi, which led 8-0 at halftime. Ty Patterson chipped in with a goal and Tanner Shapherd had an assist for the hosts.

Nick Goodwin made four saves in notching the shutout. Cameron Pritts made four saves for Yough (1-9, 2-10). Charleroi held a 17-4 edge in shots on goal.

Ringgold 9, Uniontown 0 – Frankie Lowstetter tallied three goals and three assists as Ringgold blanked host Uniontown in a Section 3-AAA match.

The win keeps the Rams (6-4, 8-6) in a third-place tie with Laurel Highlands.

Brandin Jaki also had a hat trick for Ringgold, while Brian Long contributed three assists, and Jason Vaccaro and Andrew Bottino both had a goal and two assists. Zach Alvarez also found the net for the visitors.

Jeremy Mullen stopped five shots to record the shutout. The Red Raiders fall to 0-14 overall and 0-11 in section play.

Trinity 8, Albert Gallatin 2 – Trinity defeated visiting Albert Gallatin in a Section 3-AAA match.

Nick Pegg and Kevin Thompson accounted for the scoring for the Colonials, who scored both their goals in the second half. Thompson assisted on Pegg’s goal, and Pegg in turn assisted on Thompson’s first goal of the season.

Girls volleyball

Geibel Catholic 3, Bentworth 0 — Geibel Catholic remained unbeaten with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Bentworth in a Section 2-A girls match.

Coach Rick Watkins’ Lady Gators (10-0, 10-0) won by scores of 25-13, 25-7 and 25-13.

Lauren Tomasko smashed 14 kills for first-place Geibel and Kennedi Stockey had nine. Shannon Watkins recorded 30 assists and Maia Stevenson contributed 15 service points and five aces.

Carmichaels 3, Avella 0 – Alie McGee totaled 15 assists, seven digs and three aces as Carmichaels remained one game in back of first-place Geibel Catholic with a sweep at Avella in a Section 2-A match-up.

Coach Julianne Speeney’s Lady Mikes (9-1, 9-1) took the first set handily, 25-12, fought off the Lady Eagles in the second set, 26-24, then put the match away, 25-14.

Taylor Christopher had seven kills and three blocks for Carmichaels, which also got five digs from Sydney Kuis, nine service points from Katelyn Meadows and three kills from Beth Cree.

The Mikes will celebrate senior night Tuesday when they host West Greene in another section match.

California 3, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – California used a solid all-around effort to defeat host Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 2-A match.

The Lady Trojans won by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18.

Tayla Pascoe had 19 digs and two aces and Marlee Renner contributed five kills and two aces for California. The Lady Trojans also got three kills and two blocks from Ca’mari Walden, one kills and two blocks from Mylaina Pendo, four aces and one block from Ashley Gush and nine assists and one ace from Gianna Grillo.

Caitlyn Dugan led the Lady Rockets (7-3, 8-4) with 15 digs and Autumn Gustovich added four kills.

West Greene 3, Mapletown 1 — Jersey Wise had nine kills and 16 digs and Kylie Simms added 12 assists and four aces as West Greene rallied from a 1-0 hole to defeat visiting Mapletown in a Section 2-A match.

The Lady Maples took the first set, 25-23, before the Lady Pioneers (3-7, 8-7) stormed back to win the next three, 25-16, 25-22, 28-26.

Elizabeth Brudnock had seven kills for West Greene, which also got eight digs apiece from Olivia Kiger, Mackenzie Wise and Anna Durbin. Ali Thomas and Paige Taylor each had four aces.

Ella Menear led Mapletown (1-9, 1-9) with 18 kills, seven aces and nine digs. Kailey Stover had six kills and 12 digs for the Lady Maples, who also got 18 digs from Faith Burkholder-Walter and 30 assists from Macee Cree.

Elizabeth Forward 3, Belle Vernon 0 – Kaitlin Fournier rang up 11 kills and Leah Fournier and Gianna Tour had nine apiece as Elizabeth Forward swept visiting Belle Vernon in a Section 3-AAA match.

The Lady Warriors (7-3, 8-3) won by scores of 25-15, 25-5 and 25-14.

Abby Bickerton added seven kills for EF, which also got 20 assists from Sarah McCall, 13 assists from Grace Smith and seven aces and 10 digs from Mia Vuick.

Allie Brooks had 11 digs for the Lady Leopards (3-7, 4-8).

Uniontown 3, Ringgold 0 – Uniontown survived two tough opening sets before pulling away in the third in a 3-0 sweep of host Ringgold in Section 3-AAA action.

The Lady Raiders won by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-12.

Alexis Sage led the Lady Rams (0-10, 1-12) with 19 digs, Zoey Mundorff had eight assists and Haley Resosky chipped in with three kills.

Mya Murray finished with 11 kills and 10 blocks for the Lady Raiders (5-5, 7-5). Cassidy VanSickle had eight digs, while Summer Hawk finished with six. Tyannah Eddings had 10 assists and Jada McCargo finished with 17 digs.
