Yellow Jackets edge Thiel, 14-13
Tyler Smith blocked an extra point and Waynesburg University held on for a 14-13 victory over Thiel on Saturday in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play at John F. Wiley Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (1-3, 1-4) took a 14-0 lead at halftime on touchdown runs of three and two yards and Mike Ryhal made both PATs.
The Tomcats (0-4, 0-5) cut the deficit in half on Eligah Flynn’s 38-yard interception return at 7:13 of the fourth quarter and Chris Rosales made the extra point. Teammate Trou Johnson got Thiel within one with an 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown with 2:16 remaining before Smith’s heroics.
IUP 17, California University of Pa. 6 — California University of Pennsylvania held a three-point lead until midway through the third quarter, but IUP rallied for a victory.
The Vulcans (1-1, 3-2) took a 3-0 lead at 3:23 of the first quarter on a 28-yard field goal by Keaton Hier.
The Crimson Hawks (1-0, 5-0) took a 7-3 advantage at 6:04 of the third quarter when Duane Brown pulled in a 60-yard reception from Quinton Maxwell and Dillon Sarka made the first of two PATs.
