Lady Mikes keep section title hopes alive with win over J-M
Carmichaels rallied after dropping the first set to defeat host Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 2-A girls volleyball match, 3-1, Thursday night.
The Lady Rockets took the first set, 25-21, before coach Julianne Speeney’s Lady Mikes won the next three, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-15. The win keeps the visitors one game in back of first-place Geibel Catholic. The two meet in Carmichaels 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Taylor Christopher had a double-double at the net with 10 blocks and 15 kills for Carmichaels (11-1, 11-1), and Nicole Ludrosky and Emma Hyatt added 10 and eight kills, respectively.
The Lady Mikes’ Alie McGee totaled 16 assists and 14 digs, Sydney Kuis had 19 service points and 12 assists, and Katelyn Meadows chipped in with 13 digs and 25 service points. Carmichaels also got 19 service points with two aces from Aliyah Thomas and 20 digs from Abbey Fordyce.
Caitlyn Dugan led J-M (7-5, 9-6) with nine kills and 30 digs. Autumn Gustovich contributed seven kills and 22 digs, Haley Guty had seven assists and 12 digs, and Anna Uveges added six blocks.
Jefferson-Morgan (7-5, 9-6) is locked in a third-place tie in the section with Avella and California. The top four teams qualify for the playoffs. The Lady Rockets travel to Avella for a 7 p.m. match Tuesday.
