Vulcans score 32 straight in 52-14 victory over Gannon University
California University of Pennsylvania scored 32 straight points en route to a 52-14 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory over Gannon University in Erie.
The Golden Knights (1-3, 2-5) opened the scoring on Jimmy Keefe’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Bransen Stanley and Eric Scarpino connected on the first of two PATs.
Vulcans quarterback Noah Mitchell threw the first of four touchdown passes on an eight-yard strike to Nelson Brown for a 7-7 game after Keaton Hier made the first of six extra points.
Tyson Hill pulled in the first of his three touchdown receptions on a four-yard score at 3:55 of the first half to give California (2-1, 4-2) a 13-7 lead. Hill had 10 catches for 167 yards and a long of 41.
Hier made a 29-yard field goal and Hill’s 23-yard reception pushed the Vulcans’ advantage to 23-7 with 9:35 left in the second quarter. Hier capped the first-half scoring with another 29-yard field goal.
Hill increased California’s lead to 32-7 on a three-yard touchdown reception at 7:03 of the third quarter before Gannon’s Jason Dambach scored on a one-yard run.
Mitchell called his own number for a one-yard score at 1:34 of the third quarter for a 39-14 advantage. Mitchell was 20 of 35 for 295 yards and threw one interception.
Josh Dale caught a six-yard touchdown pass and Julian Cox recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Vulcans’ remaining scores.
California’s Ian Edenfield, who is a Laurel Highlands graduate, caught one pass for four yards.
