Lady Falcons game in 2-1 setback to No. 2 ranked North Catholic

By The 2 min read

Brownsville gave North Catholic all it could handle, but the Lady Falcons’ season ended in a 2-1 setback on Thursday at Canon-McMillan in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class AA girls’ soccer playoffs.

The Lady Falcons (10-7) were the underdogs as the second-seeded Trojanettes (12-4) and battled back to cut the deficit to one at halftime on a goal by Maralee Duggan-Hudock at 3:44 of the first half. Tessa Dellarose assisted on Duggan-Hudock’s tally.

Head coach Cedar Brunache’s team did all it could to tie the match in the second half, but couldn’t get the equalizer past North Catholic keeper Andrea Bean, who had four saves.

Brownsville freshman keeper Kami Franks stopped eight shots.

Jayden Sharpless and Julia Burkowski scored at 20:47 and 9:24 to give the Lady Trojanettes a 2-0 lead. Tehya Dave assisted on Sharpless’ tally and Burkowski’s goal was unassisted.

Dellarose, who is a sophomore and University of North Carolina recruit, finished her season with 49 goals. She was also marked by the opposing team for most of the year, and had to create space while being hounded by multiple defenders.

Four Lady Falcons played their final high school game in Chloe Wright, who is one of Brownsville’s captains, Madison Boone, Kylie Dunker and Emily Yanak.

North Catholic plays South Park (13-3-1) on Monday in the semifinals with the site and time to be determined.
