Turcheck’s double lifts Raiders to 4-3 win
Derek Turcheck’s double in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday lifted Waynesburg Central to a 4-3 victory in Section 4-AAA victory over visiting Brownsville.
Turcheck paced the Raiders (4-0, 5-0) with three hits and two RBI. Austin Suber doubled.
The Falcons (0-5, 0-5) rallied with three runs to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. Harlan Davis led Brownsville with a double, triple and two RBI.
C.J. Corwin earned the win and Hunter Pelehac took the loss.
Softball
Belle Vernon 12, Greensburg Salem 11 – The Lady Leopards fended off visiting Greensburg Salem for a Section 2-AAAA victory.
Belle Vernon (3-1, 8-1) scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, two in the second and sixth innings, and solo runs in the bottom of the first and third innings.
The Lady Lions (0-3, 2-6) scored single runs in the top of the first, third and seventh innings, and four in the fourth and fifth innings.
Belle Vernon’s Mia Zubovic and Gracie Sokol both finished with two doubles and a single, while Mailey Hayes and Katie Sokol had a double and two singles. Zubovic drove in three runs and Gracie Sokol, Katie Sokol and Hayes all finished with two RBI.
Maddie Grisnik pitched the final 2.2 innings for the win. She allowed one run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Losing pitcher Alle Scarpa hit a solo home run and two doubles. Patty Redinger was a home shy of hitting for the cycle, and drove in three runs. Gionna Ruffner finished with a single, double and three RBI. Sammie Reusser drove in two runs.
