formerly of Uniontown

Ethel M. Havlichek McDougle, 90, formerly of Uniontown, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, January 9, 2024. She died peacefully, where she wanted to be, in her home, with her loving and caring daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Mark, and her little doggie, Angie. She had made her home with them in Summerville, S.C. for the past 2 ½ years.

She was born May 2, 1933, in Menallen Township, a daughter of the late Robert W. Havlichek and Anna Majstoravich Havlichek.

Ethel graduated from Uniontown Senior High School, Class of 1951. After graduation, she worked at Metzler’s Department Store in the Accounts Payable Department.

She was a lifelong member of the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown. Her love for her Lord was evident in her life. She was caring, compassionate, generous, and always putting others first. She devoted herself to her family and succeeded in creating a wonderful homelife for her husband, Calvin and her only child, Tammy.

A cookbook brought a smile to her face. She loved collecting recipes. She was well known for delicious meals and loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Many looked forward every Christmas to her huge tray of cookies being delivered.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, John Calvin McDougle, in 2017; three sisters, infant sister Betty Jean Havlichek, Esther Havlichek and Rose Havlichek Freda; her brothers, James, Robert Jr. and Paul Havlichek; and sister and brother-in-law, Myra Jean and Willis Cupp.

Left to cherish her memories are her devoted daughter, Tammy (Mark) Yarris, whom she loved so much; her treasured sisters, Patricia Natoli and husband Joe of Uniontown, and Janet Havlichek of Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews who hold precious memories of Aunt Ethel. Know that she loved you all dearly.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, and until the 11 a.m. hour of service Wednesday, January 17, in the SHELL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 164 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, with Pastor Ron Hudson officiating. Interment will be private.
