Thanksgiving meals for those in need

All are invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with CityChurch and the churches of Connellsville. The annual dinner will be held on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Connellsville Senior Center. While the federal government has reopened, the delay in SNAP benefits have made it difficult for some to put food on the table this Thanksgiving.

To make sure those in need do not go hungry, several organizations and local businesses are providing meals or food boxes.

Below are many local options for those who may require assistance. Be sure to take note if an organization or business close to you requires registration ahead of providing a meal.

Free turkeys will be given out at MedMark Treatment Center at 3591 Pittsburgh St., Perryopolis, on Friday, Nov. 21 from noon to 2 p.m

Food boxes will be handed out at the Saltlick Township Building at 147 Municipal Building Road, Melcroft, on Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Greenwood Heights Church of God at 914 Lawn. Ave., Connellsville, will host a Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. Those interested are asked to register by calling or texting 314-417-6078 or 314-825-3480.

CityChurch and the churches of Connellsville will host a Thanksgiving dinner at the Connellsville Senior Center, 100 E. Fayette St., Connellsville, on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will pick up those unable to drive or deliver meals. To arrange for either, call 724-628-0700 by 2 p.m. Nov. 26.

PathWays of Southwestern Pennsylvania will host its annual Turkey Dinner Box Giveaway Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at 130 Bill George Drive, Waynesburg, or 655 Jefferson Ave., Washington.

Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Department at 411 Roosevelt Blvd., Nemacolin, will host a free dinner on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is meant for residents of Nemacolin and Cumberland Township. Those interested are asked to register by calling 724-998-8478 or emailing nemacolinvfd@gmail.com.

Harvest for Hope by the Washington County Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Task Force will host a Thanksgiving-themed meal on Nov. 19 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Meadowlands, 340 Racetrack Road. Meals will be distributed from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Salvation Army at 60 E. Maiden St., Washington, will be handing out hot meals on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. Those receiving meals can choose dine-in or take out options. The Salvation Army asks that people register by calling 724-225-5740 or by visiting the Facebook page

The Washington City Mission at 84 W. Wheeling St., Washington, will host a dinner on Thanksgiving day for the community at 1:15 p.m.

Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church at 160 Jefferson Ave., Washington, will distribute meals on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until they run out of food. Those who attend are asked to enter through the side door accessible from Walnut Street.

Washington Christian Outreach at 119 Highland Ave., Washington, will hand out hot meals on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested are asked to register by visiting the outreach, or by calling 724-222-0750.

Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church at 112 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, is hosting a community meal on Thanksgiving day from noon to 2 p.m. Take out meals will be available from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Granny and Peepaw’s Diner at 113 St. John St., Midway, will host a buffet-style meal on Thanksgiving day from noon to 3 p.m. Take out boxes will be available, as well as delivery. Those interested are asked to register by Nov. 19 by texting 724-344-8853

Ma and Pop’s Country Kitchen at 2840 South Park Road, Bethel Park, will provide meals on Thanksgiving day from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dine-in, take out and delivery options are available. Those interested are asked to make a reservation by Nov. 21 by calling 412-595-8451 and pressing option two to leave a message with your request.
