Greene commissioners OK tourism grants

The Greene County commissioners approved a slew of tourism-related at their most recent meeting, including money for local events tied to America’s 250th anniversary and repairs to some county facilities. The $265,000 for the county’s Tourism Assets Improvement Project will be used to repair the roofs of the Greene County Fairgrounds arena barn and the Mon View Roller Rink in Greensboro. Funding came through a Commonwealth Financing Authority Local Share Account grant announced in December. Man dies in wrong-way crash in Bullskin Township

A wrong-way crash on Route 982 in Bullskin Township, Fayette County, on Friday left one man dead, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The driver, David Lancaster, 50, of Mount Pleasant, died at the scene, according to the Fayette County coroner's office. Police said the 4 p.m. accident happened as Lancaster was rounding a curve at around 4 p.m. and his vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Police are still investigating the accident. According to troopers, the crash happened around 4 p.m. along Route 982 in Bullskin Township.

Washington County officials are appealing the decision by the state’s opioid settlement fund review committee to reject eight grant applications put forward by the county for various projects battling the drug epidemic in the region. The Dispute Resolution Committee overseeing the Pennsylvania Opioid Misuse and Addiction Abatement Trust fund will hold a public hearing at 12:15 p.m. March 13 to allow county officials to explain why the eight projects deemed “non-compliant” in December should be given a second look.
