Man injured in explosion at Fayette County asphalt plant

A man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Saturday morning after he was injured in an explosion at Coolspring Stone Supply Inc. in North Union Township, Fayette County, at about 11 a.m. Saturday. Fayette County dispatch said the accident happened at about 10:45 a.m. The man was transported by emergency helicopter to UPMC Mercy for treatment of burns he suffered in the explosion, according to dispatch. Hopwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Fayette EMS. There was no active fire when firefighters responded. No additional information was available.
