Monday crash in Brownsville kills pedestrian

A Brownsville man died after being hit by a vehicle in the borough on Monday. Mark Smith, 30, was walking along Route 40 East when the vehicle struck him, Fayette County Coroner Dr. Bob Baker said in a release. Smith was transported to WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, where he died Monday evening. Route 40 was closed off between Broadway Street and Grindstone Road after the crash, reopening shortly before midnight, the Brownsville Fire Company said in a Facebook post. The driver of the vehicle has not been identified. Brownsville police are investigating the matter, and did not respond to calls seeking additional information.
