The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will conduct a solemn Memorial Day ceremony honoring John Ross Dunn, bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds,” at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, and is open to the public. It was rescheduled from last week due to inclement weather. Dunn served as a bugler in the first of Pennsylvania’s distinguished Civil War cavalry units. Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat. There was no sign of foul play in the death of an SCI-Fayette inmate, the state police said in a news release Tuesday. The body of Lavell Jones, 55, was found alone in his locked cell around 9:27 p.m. May 21, police said. The county coroner’s office released the body to a funeral home.
