Madelyn Dyer, 11, of Connellsville, holds a copy of her book “Celestial.” She won a contest to publish the book, which is available this month.

An 11-year-old Connellsville girl is a published author.

Madelyn Dyer won a contest sponsored by Starlit Waters Publishing in Mount Pleasant and The Plot Twist Co. in Connellsville to publish her book “Celestial.”

The chapter book is about Luna, a teenage girl who grew up without her parents. At age 17, she learned she had a great purpose, and the fate of the world depended upon her ability to fulfill that destiny.

“I was inspired by other books and shows to come up with a good story,” said Dyer, a sixth-grade student at Connellsville Area Middle School.

Isabel Franklin, 9, of Connellsville, was awarded the contest’s honorable mention prize for her story “A Girl Who Wanted To Sing.” Starlit Waters owner Linda Harkcom said that while that prize did not come with a guarantee of being published, the work could be included in a collection of short children’s stories in the future.

Dyer’s book is available this month at The Plot Twist Co., 120 W. Crawford Ave., Connellsville.
