Winners of New Salem Legion essay contest announced

New Salem American Legion Auxiliary Unit 753 recently presented Americanism Essay medals and monetary awards to students at Menallen Elementary School in the Uniontown Area School District. This year’s theme was “Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday and the Veterans Who Fought for Our Freedoms.”

Sadie Schwartzman of Uniontown was the first-place winner in Class I (grades 3 and 4). In addition, Sadie placed first in the Washington-Fayette-Greene County Council competition. Jacob Coddington of Smock was the second-place winner, and Olivia Andursky of Scottdale placed third.

Deklan Dean of Vanderbilt was the first-place winner in Class II (grades 5 and 6). Ethan Silva of Uniontown was the second place-winner, and Lincoln Covert of Uniontown placed third.
