Residents of Fayette County now have access to an expanded range of expert surgical care options with the addition of Advait Iyer, D.O., to the WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital General Surgery team.

Iyer is a minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic general surgeon, specializing in foregut surgery for conditions affecting the upper digestive tract, such as acid reflux (GERD), hiatal hernias, swallowing disorders, and gastroparesis.

“I love meeting new patients, getting to know their story and their family, and helping them achieve a better quality of life,” he said. “My guiding principle is treating the whole patient and working as a team to figure out if surgery is the right answer and finding the right answer if surgery doesn’t offer the best possible outcome.”

Iyer earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, then completed his general surgery residency in SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery at AHN West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and Pennsylvania Board of Osteopathic Medicine. His professional memberships include the American Osteopathic Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

“Dr. Iyer is committed to our community and joins our team as a trusted provider of high-quality surgical care that patients can find close to home,” Karyn Wallace, Uniontown Hospital president and CEO, said.

He is now welcoming new patients on the third floor of Uniontown Hospital’s Annex Building on Woodlawn Avenue. To schedule an appointment, call 724-430-5600.
