Members of Soroptimist International of Fayette County were presented a Proclamation by the Fayette County Commissioners for the celebration of Soroptimist Founders Day honoring their vision and commitment of the women who established the organization in 1921.

Founded in Oakland, California, Soroptimist was created by a group of women who believed in using their professional skills and collective influence to create opportunities for women and girls. The name Soroptimist means “best for women,” reflecting the organization’s mission to help women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realize aspirations, and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities.

During the Founders Day celebration, members reflected on the organization’s rich history and its continuing impact through local and international programs that provide education, mentorship, economic empowerment, and support for women facing obstacles such as poverty, violence, and discrimination.

Today, Soroptimist volunteers across the globe continue to make a difference through initiatives such as the Live Your Dream Awards, which provide financial assistance to women who are the primary financial support for their families, and Dream It, Be It, a program that helps girls build confidence and pursue their educational and career goals.

As members celebrate Founders Day, they also look forward to continuing the organization’s legacy of service, leadership, and advocacy for women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.
